Abstract

This article weaves theoretical-critical reflections on youth and adult education (EJA) in the current historical context. We consider it extremely relevant to reclaim the social value attributed to this educational modality, which is so important for the social and economic development of a segment of the population that has historically remained on the margins of society. Thus, it is both urgent and necessary to guide our reflections toward fostering the importance of—and securing a place for—EJA, in the midst of a horizon of invisibility to which this educational modality is presently subjected. The theoretical framework is grounded in the studies of Saviani (2011–2013), Freire (2000–2022) and Gadotti (2000). Methodologically, we adopted qualitative bibliographic and documentary research on the object under investigation, through an exploratory and descriptive study (Gil, 2002). Thus, the research is conducted through an examination of conceptual and legal categories that, in our view, are foundational to the investigation.
