Abstract

Workplace violence has become a serious problem in health services, reflecting not only organizational failures but also psychosocial factors that compromise workers’ well-being and safety. The hospital environment, especially in emergency and urgent care units, exposes professionals to situations of constant stress and physical and emotional overload. In this context, understanding the relationship between psychosocial factors and episodes of violence is essential for developing effective prevention and risk management strategies. This study aims to analyze, through an integrative review, the influence of psychosocial factors on the occurrence of workplace violence in health services, identifying its types, causes, and consequences, as well as management measures capable of mitigating such events. It is a qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study, conducted in the SciELO, LILACS, PubMed, and PePSIC databases between 2015 and 2024, using the descriptors “psychosocial factors,” “workplace violence,” “well-being at work,” and “occupational health,” combined with Boolean operators. The search followed the PICo structure (Population: health professionals; Interest: psychosocial factors and violence; Context: public health services). Peer-reviewed articles with full text and thematic relevance were included. The results show that psychological distress, professional devaluation, and the absence of participatory management increase vulnerability to violence and reduce well-being at work. It is concluded that the integration between public policies aimed at improving the structural conditions of health services and the application of risk management instruments from Occupational Safety Engineering, combined with the implementation of the guidelines of Regulatory Standards No. 01 and No. 17, as well as international standards ISO 45001 and ISO 45003, constitutes a promising path for promoting safer, healthier, and psychologically sustainable work environments.
