A Invisibilidade do Trabalho não remunerado do Cuidar dos Filhos: Uma realidade da Mãe Solo

Abstract

This article addresses the invisibility of unpaid childcare work performed by single mothers, highlighting how this activity, fundamental to the functioning of society, remains undervalued and excluded from official statistics and public policy agendas. Based on a bibliographical search, following the precepts of Gil (2008),  was revisited, as well as national studies on the condition of single-parent families. The article demonstrates that single mothers accumulate double or triple shifts caring for children, performing paid work, and managing household tasks without social recognition or institutional support. This overload directly impacts their physical and mental health, restricts their employment opportunities, and deepens gender inequalities. It is concluded that only by making this work visible and incorporating its economic and social value (through flexible parental leave policies, care subsidies, and community support services) can we advance the reconstruction of a model of social justice that recognizes and equitably distributes caregiving responsibilities.
