Abstract

ABSTRACT:

This article analyzes the dynamics of public security in the municipality of Itacoatiara, in the state of Amazonas, Brazil, from an integrated urban-geographical perspective linked to the operational practices of the 2nd Military Police Battalion. Based on qualitative research, operational data, and crime indices from 2014-2015, as well as updated data from the Secretary of Public Security (2024-2025), the study examines how the municipality's strategic position in the Metropolitan Region of Manaus, combined with its demographic and economic growth, impacts local crime patterns. The study demonstrates that accelerated urban expansion, together with its privileged location on Amazonian river routes, creates specific challenges for public security management, demanding integrated and territorially adapted police responses.
