Abstract

Brazil has the largest freshwater reserve in the world; however, it faces serious challenges in water resource management. These problems are intensified by the lack of basic sanitation and the losses incurred during the water distribution process. In Pirassununga, the Water and Sewage Service (SAEP) monitors the water reservoirs; however, it still faces difficulties due to the absence ofadequate technologies. Therefore, SAEP established a partnership with the University of São Paulo through the Luiz de Queiróz Foundation for Agrarian Studies (FEALQ) to develop an accessible and low-cost solution for monitoring water levels in reservoirs. The result was the creation of an embedded system prototype, which generated a 92.9% cost reduction for public funds compared to outsourcing third-party services. After the validation phase, the prototype proved to be highly efficient compared to existing commercial systems.
