To synthesize and critically analyze the main applications of nanobiotechnology in dentistry, highlighting advances, challenges, and future perspectives. A narrative literature review was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, including articles published between 1999 and 2025, without language restrictions, addressing nanomaterials, nanobiotechnology, and their clinical applications in dentistry. Evidence consistently indicates that nanobiotechnology offers relevant benefits in several areas: enhanced antimicrobial efficacy (silver, zinc oxide, and chitosan nanoparticles), nanostructured surfaces that accelerate osseointegration, restorative materials with improved mechanical and aesthetic properties, controlled drug delivery systems, and high-sensitivity biosensors for salivary diagnostics. However, most studies are in vitro or preclinical, with a lack of long-term randomized clinical trials and standardized regulatory frameworks. Nanobiotechnology holds great potential to transform dentistry, but its full integration into clinical practice depends on robust scientific validation, specific regulation, and the development of safe, cost-effective materials.
