Epidemiology of Trauma in the State of Pará (2015–2023)

Abstract

Introduction: Trauma is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in Brazil, especially in the North and Northeast regions. This study aims to analyze the epidemiological profile of trauma in the state of Pará between 2015 and 2023.

 

Methods: This is a descriptive and retrospective study, using secondary data from DATASUS, SIM and SIH-SUS. Variables such as sex, age group, cause of trauma and clinical outcome were analyzed.

 

Results: There was a predominance of male victims (approximately 75%), with a higher incidence in the age group of 18 to 29 years. The main causes of trauma were traffic accidents (especially involving motorcycles), falls and interpersonal aggression.

 

Conclusion: The data indicate the need for public policies aimed at preventing traffic accidents, especially among young people, and at strengthening emergency services in the state.
