Abstract

The Indigenous influence in Brazil is profound and permeates various aspects of the nation’s culture and identity. Since Portuguese colonization in the 16th century, Indigenous peoples have significantly contributed to the formation of Brazilian society, despite centuries of exploitation, genocide, and ethnocide. This article examines the cultural diversity of Indigenous ethnic groups in Paraná, highlighting their ethnic and identity traits, as well as the contemporary challenges they face. The research is based on anthropological studies, such as those by Mota (2008), Parellada (2006), and Grupioni (2014), as well as works on Indigenous education, like those by Faustino (2006), Novack (2008), and Baniwa (2019). The analysis was conducted from a historical-dialectical materialist perspective, considering Paraná’s Indigenous communities as part of a broader context that reflects the reality of a colonized and subalternized country. The study highlights the cultural richness of these peoples and their resistance in the face of historical adversities, emphasizing the importance of valuing their traditions and current struggles. Despite marginalization, Paraná’s Indigenous ethnic groups maintain their identities and contribute to Brazil’s cultural diversity, reinforcing the need for policies that ensure their rights and preservation.
