A relação de sinais e sintomas de Disfunções Temporomandibulares com procedimentos odontológicos de longa duração – Revisão de literatura

A Disfunção Temporomandibular (DTM) constitui um grupo de condições clínicas que acometem a articulação temporomandibular (ATM), os músculos mastigatórios e estruturas associadas, podendo afetar até um terço da população ao longo da vida, com predominância em mulheres jovens. Trata-se de uma condição multifatorial, na qual fatores biológicos, comportamentais e psicossociais interagem, sendo também relacionada a eventos mecânicos e traumáticos, como os procedimentos odontológicos prolongados. A literatura aponta que intervenções como exodontias de terceiros molares, tratamentos endodônticos e restauradores extensos podem desencadear ou agravar quadros de DTM devido à abertura bucal prolongada, sobrecarga muscular e articular e liberação de mediadores inflamatórios. Este estudo, desenvolvido sob a forma de uma revisão integrativa da literatura, buscou identificar e analisar a associação entre procedimentos odontológicos prolongados e a ocorrência de DTM, bem como descrever os principais sinais, sintomas, terapêuticas e prognóstico relacionados. Os resultados apontam que, embora não haja comprovação de causalidade direta entre procedimentos odontológicos e o surgimento da DTM, há clara correlação com a predisposição individual e fatores mecânicos e psicossociais. O manejo clínico deve priorizar estratégias conservadoras, baseadas em uma abordagem multidisciplinar e centrada no paciente, com vistas à reabilitação funcional, alívio da dor e prevenção da cronificação dos sintomas.
