Abstract

Objectives: analyze the scientific literature on the effects of violence on the quality of life of institutionalized elderly people.Methods: An integrative literature review was conducted using the descriptors "Homes for the Aged," "Elder Abuse," and "Quality of Life." The search was conducted in the BVS, PubMed, SciELO, and Cochrane databases. The inclusion criteria were: articles published in the last five years, with full text available, and written in English, Portuguese, or Spanish. Duplicate studies and those that did not directly address the proposed topic were excluded.Results: Eight articles were selected, highlighting the high prevalence of abuse, mainly psychological and neglect, with strong physical and emotional impacts, especially on elderly people with dementia.Eight articles were selected, highlighting the high prevalence of abuse, mainly psychological and neglect, with strong physical and emotional impacts, especially on elderly people with dementia.Eight articles were selected, highlighting the high prevalence of abuse, mainly psychological and neglect, with strong physical and emotional impacts, especially on elderly people with dementia. Final considerations:Violence against older adults in institutions is alarming, with a high prevalence of abuse and neglect, which seriously affects their health and dignity. Preventive strategies and humane environments are essential to mitigate these harms.
